My thoughts on Transformers 3

Yesterday, I watched Transformers 3...

First of all I love 3D and I love CGI. That's why I loved this movie!

It starts with some flashback from the time when the US first landed on the moon. And to be honest this movie fulfills a lot of clichés but that obviously is Hollywood.

Back to 3D:
There where spectacular fight scenes and one my favorites is the car chase on the highway.
I think the virtual world is brought really well into the real movie world. Textures were awesome. I loved the style of the Decepticons they had an evil bio-organic-robotic appearance.

After all I was very good entertained you get what you can expect when you watch a scifi-aliens-roboter-action movie…

And sometimes that is just awsome….

Fun Modeling

I was having fun a couple of weeks ago, modeling a head. Unfortunately I was not able to finish it yet.

I posted progress on twitter and now I thought it would be cool to have a wrap up post …

so here we go… still considered as draft…

 

And a test render… just lights no make up yet =)…

Final version

After a lot of settings and playing around ... I finalized this image with a pretty descend result ...

Render draft - golden medal in grass

This is a render I am doing right now in Messiah 3D (currently in Version 3.0) (I am still waiting for my dare2share advantage)... 

I took focus on the grass and I am almost happy with it.... 

There are some peaks which are still leaking but ... 

You know right now I am more concerned about the goldish material which is not as I want I to be....

take a look at this rendered in Messiah ...(not as sharp and crisp also)....

This is what I did a couple of years back ago with Lightwave...
I like the sort of brushed precious metal goldish look... like an old medal...

this is what I want to have laying in the grass....

First Meeting Minutes for this year. Actually drawn a couple of weeks ago but did not find the time to scan...
but here you go....

Daily Sketch

So far it is going great. I do alot of painting latly. I try to get my hand a little more loose and that's why I did a speed painting today... Not so accorate as the others... but I need to get a better flow with the pen and sometimes I think I am way to frightning to draw something wrong or do a wrong line... and it turns out that it is a good feeling just to doodle around...
Still a long way to go...

Old Rocker

2D Painting black and white of an old rocker... some tests about testing shadows and light not quite hit the nail... need also work more und detailing...

MyPaint - Sketchbook painting tool

I am still on the research to improve my painting and sketching skills. Beside wondering through the web for inspiration and tutorials. I am also in the middle of finding the approperiate tool to sketch/paint. I know it comes all down to actual paint but I want at least a tool which supports me, is easy to use, not overloaded with features and has a great response to the pen. Right now I am using my wacom intuos 3.

Searching for the tool found 3 tools most artists speak about

• Sketchbookpro
• Artrage
• Corel Painter

But it seems that there is a new star which seams pretty impressive to me. I found an open source tool which is called MyPaint. At the time writing this post the current stable version is 0.71. But everybody is waiting for the version 0.8 which should be out already...

David Revoy (http://www.davidrevoy.com/) a great artist. He seems to be involved as a conept artist in the blender open movie project "Durian" http://durian.blender.org/ . 

He developed a bunch of very useful brushes and shares his color pallettes, too.

New Years resolution 2010

I realized that I have neglected this blog for a while now! I have also realized that my time for drawing and working on 3D stuff went down dramatically =(..

Last post was in January 2008 that is a very long time ... Since we have December 2009 and it is time again for the new years resulution again...

I decided to hopefully spent more time on painting, working on 3D stuff and also blog about it!

I think there is a song called "the best things in life are free". Well, I had a roler pen as some sort of merchindising gift... it was great I loved this pen... It was fun to write and doodle with it... but you know. The love didn't last long... so whatever... around christmas there will be some gifts anyway =)
